challenge

In 2019, my work with VACU began with small design tasks, such as creating custom iconography and UI elements as needed. By 2020, our collaboration had deepened, and I took on a more significant role, managing and amplifying the brand's digital design system to create a more cohesive and impactful online presence.

Solution

The first step in enhancing the user experience was conducting a thorough design audit of the existing design system. I documented various components and styles, offering targeted suggestions for improvement. Using Brad Frost's atomic design methodology, I organized my findings to bridge the gap between development and design. This approach streamlined the process for both teams, enabling us to iterate more efficiently.

Once the audit was complete, I revisited components that could benefit from refinement. Not all revisions were major—many were minor adjustments, but each change had a meaningful impact on the user experience. Enhancements included adding texture to the design system, incorporating more iconography, and fine-tuning padding for better balance and scalability.

Launch Experiences

With the launch this new product, the idea is to create immersive experiences and installations around the city. Glossier would take over Manhattan with giant sculptures of the product in uptown, midtown, and downtown, creating a photo op scavenger hunt. Each sculpture will be strategically placed in a neighborhood to reflect its namesake. Fairy can be found in Central Park amongst the trees, Siren is sitting pretty on a pier in Seaport, and Supernova is in the heart of Times Square, reflected in the lights for an intergalactic feel.

Glossier has always been big on customer experience. With G Light, the idea is to tap into that connection: unexpected fun and, let’s be real, free stuff because who doesn’t love that? The launch of this product continues with a party where people can test the powders and create content and connections. Tote bags as cute takeaways, and even a claw machine where guests could try their luck at winning a G Light powder. The goal is to make the launch feel exciting, shareable, and totally Glossier.
